2 days Countdown to NBA Ikeja “Law Enforcement and Respect for Human Rights” Symposium

As the the Symposium organized by Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja branch comes closer, issues bothering on Respect for Human Rights in the country begins to get international attention and involvement.

Bob Menedez, a senator in the US has made a press statement stating that he has come to the conclusion that it’s either Nigeria no longer respects rule of law or that President Buhari is woefully out of touch with what agents of his government are doing in his name. This statement came as a result of the continuous refusal of the DSS to free Sowore despite being granted bail twice by the court. He stated that freedom of the press is a fundamental pillar of democracy and an indispensable object of government. He went further to say that journalists who risked their lives to expose the truth should be celebrated and not incarcerated.

Femi Falana, SAN, a member of the NBA Ikeja branch and counsel to the troubled journalist, Sowore, has said in an interview that he has instituted an action in court to challenge the unacceptable acts of the agents of government in disrupting the dispensation of justice and rule of law. Mr. Femi Falana, SAN is a guest speaker at the said symposium of the NBA Ikeja to hold on the 10th of December, 2019.

The Topic of the Symposium is “Law Enforcement and Respect for Human Rights”

Other guest speakers are Mr. Wahab Shittu, a Lecturer of Law at the University of Lagos, Tony Ojukwu, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission and DSP Yetunde Cardoso, OC Legal Lagos State Police command.

There would be a visit to the prisons on the Monday, the 9th of December, 2019 by 10am and at the Symposium on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019 by 10am, there would be live recount by victims of human rights violation.
