PDP chief, APC disagree over Ebonyi unemployment rate
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the March 18, 2023 elections in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, has decried the increasing rate of poverty, hunger, and unemployment in the state.
This was as he urged party faithful to work together for the development of the state, adding that, “For me, I am always intentional with making progress in life. In like manner, let me particularly remind us that we must therefore forge ahead, and in forging forward, I believe that it is important for us to remain resolute, united, and focused on our shared goals and aspirations of a prosperous Ebonyi State.”
Odii stated this while addressing party members during a one-day stakeholders meeting in Isu community, in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Thursday.
According to him, the resolve of the party leadership to stay united would help it fight injustice, corruption, sycophancy and greed in the state.
He said, “Particularly, I am deeply concerned about the all-time rising rate of poverty, unemployment and hunger in the state; lack of access to portable water, the non-existence of viable industries in the state, declining standard of education, lack of access to healthcare service delivery, poor state’s rating in the ease of doing business, and the disturbing human development indices of the state, among other critical issues of grave concern.
“To this end, I, therefore, urge each and every one of you to remain engaged, steadfast, and involved in our collective resolve to create something new and extraordinary for our people. Become more inspired by your usual genuine love for our people, and always know that your voices and your actions matter, and together, we can make a difference.”
Reacting, the All Progressives Congress in the state described the PDP’s position as baseless, adding that the party was focused and committed to the well-being of residents.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Simbad Ogbuatu, said, “Everybody in the state can testify of the fact that the current Ebonyi State under Governor Francis Nwifuru is focused, committed and genuinely driven to better the lots of the masses.
“Are you talking about youths? Are you talking about the civil servants? Just name it. This government or administration is focused and determined to change the story of Ebonyi people for the better.
“Therefore, we will resist anybody who comes out to blackmail this government within the ambit of the law, because Nigeria as a country now is challenged. The current government under the APC has done a lot and is doing so much to put smiles on the faces of Ebonyians.
“The current APC government in the state has done so much, which is even being commended by many opposition elements in the state. The government is doing a lot to make sure there is no hunger and unemployment in this place , at least to bring these challenges to the barest minimum.”
