Today commemorates the international Day of celebration of the Girl-Child. It is a day set aside to celebrate the
Girl Child and advocate for support towards her welfare and protection of her wellbeing. The significance of this Day being principally to renew the call for protectIon of the girl child against all manner of violence and deprivation must therefore not be lost on us all. We must continually advocate for the recognition and enforcement of the rights of the Girl Child. The Girl Child is a future mother and invariably the mother of the future generations. She therefore deserves to experience the best of care and conditions.
Thier right to education is inalienable and must be ensured. We must try as much as possible to keep her well educated and not discriminated against on the basis of gender.
As I celebrate with the Girl Child today, may I also celebrate all the Child Rights advocates (both individuals and institutions) for their great sacrifices through their campaigns, programs and activism.
God bless the Girl Child
Happy International Girl Child’s Day.
