The African Bar Association (AfBA) has concluded arrangement to host the maiden African Air Force Conference in partnership with the Defence Headquarters come April in Abuja, with participation from over 800 persons to deliberate and proffer lasting solutions to insecurity.

The theme of the event is “Building on the operational efficiency of the military: The place of the law.”

Its President, Hannibal Uwaifo, disclosed this at the weekend in Lagos during a press briefing to announce the organisation’s yearly conference holding between August 7 and 11 at Liliongwe, Malawi, with the theme, “Instituting an enduring legacy of transparency and accountable governance in Africa: Basic issues and roadmap.”

He noted that the flagship programme, which is drawing over 1,500 participants from across the globe, was to provide limitless networking opportunities, break barriers to sound legal submissions and offer new areas of law practice.

Uwaifo noted that with good governance, most of the conflicts besetting the continent would be sustainably addressed.

He hinted that international law, peacekeeping and rule of law would be looked into at the upcoming event to ensure transparent elections in Africa, within the context of good governance and containing corruption via procurement and related matters.

The AFBA boss explained that the body met with Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, on expanding maritime law, following the observation of the military chief.

Uwaifo said: “Africa, unlike Europe, does not have common borders.”

He stressed seamless flights to aid ease of doing business- via establishment of a big global airline to push down fares.

The legal practitioner also harped on the nitty-gritty of immigration and deportation, aside how taxation could be synchronised for the benefit of Nigerians.

He stated that lawyers have a big role to play in reinventing Africa vis-à-vis providing solutions to its numerous developmental challenges.
