THE Police in Zone 5, Benin, have arrested six persons, including a native doctor, allegedly involved in a plot to assassinate one Etinosa Ighodalo of lyowa in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Also arrested and paraded before newsmen is one Stephen Enakhare Oshoma alleged to be a notorious fraudster, who specialised in forging corporate institutions documents, such as university degree certificates, school certificates, driver’s license and bank statements, among others.
According to the zonal Public Relations Officer of the Police, ASP Emeka Iheanacho, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from members of the public.
According to him, “the assassination attempt was due to power tussle over local politics of who becomes the chairman of Iyowa.”
He said a list containing the name of the would-be victim and nine others marked for murder was recovered from the shrine.
Although the suspects denied the allegations, saying the names were drawn to ensure peace in the community, the native doctor said the suspects gave him the list of persons to be dealt with, but that he declined.
