Children’s Day: We Must Safeguard The Future of Our Children – Dele Adesina SAN

Dele Adesina SAN

God loves every child so much that he creates each one of them with unimaginable perfection. Truly, children are blessings from heaven. On this special day, it is with joy and gladness that I join the rest of the world in celebrating Children’s Day.

In Nigeria, children’s Rights are held sacred and protected by law; not only does the law protect the child, it also stipulates punishment for adults who take advantage of children or seek to negatively influence them. Also, the Child’s Rights Act 2003 (CRA) consolidates all laws relating to children, as well as specifying the duties and obligations of government, parents and other authorities, organizations and bodies. I urge all States yet to adopt to the Child’s Right Act to do same for the benefit our future as a people and a Nation.

It is only if the future of the children are safeguarded that they can have hopes of a secured future, be it in legal practice or any other profession. I, therefore, call on Governments at all levels, public and private institutions and all well meaning individuals to pay special attention to the education sector, in order to secure the future of our children.

Lastly, I believe that in the spirit of the provisions of Section 1, Child’s Rights Act (2003), which provides that “In every action concerning a child, whether undertaken by an individual, public or private body, institutions or service, organisation or individuals, court of law, or administrative or legislative authority, the best interest of the Child shall be the primary consideration”, we must all rise to defend the rights of every Child at all times..

Happy Children’s Day.
