Court Stops Onyebuchi Okpala, Others From Conducting Agulu People’s Union’s Elections

High Court in sitting in Anambra yesterday, ordered the members of the Caretaker Committee from conducting election of Agulu People’s Union, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit or until further order.

Justice R.O Onunkwo, a Vacation judge in the suit No NN/183/2021 Motion No: NN/593/2021, restrained the Defendants, Sir Onyebuchi Okpala, Joseph Muonago, MBA Obiora Cosmas Onwuasoanya, every members of the Caretaker Committee, and every other person from organizing or conducting any election for the purpose of electing any National officers for Agulu People’s Union or its Youth Wing.

The Defendants had earlier scheduled on 27th and 30th December for its Town’s Election.

The motion ex-parte which was made available to TheNigerialawyer, was brought pursuant to Order 39 Rule 1(2) and Order 8 Rule 4(1) of the High Court(Civil Procedure) Rules of Anambra State 2019 and heard by Kaine Ananwune, Esq., of counsel for the Plaintiff/Applicant.

The court further mandated the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command to give effect to the order of Interim junction made above to avoid a possible breakdown of law and order in Agulu Town, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State.

It is also hereby ordered that the Originating process, accompanying documents, motion on notice and all their process to be filed in this suit be served on the Defendants by substituted means namely, by pasting the aforesaid processes on the entrance gate of Agulu People’s Union Hall, as well as the entrance gate of the Defendants’ residences.
