The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised drivers of vehicles and tricycles in Enugu State to ensure that they obtain genuine driver’s licence, warning that those without licences would be charged with murder in the event of any accident that leads to loss of lives.
Sector commander of the FRSC, Enugu State, Mr David Mendie, gave the warning yesterday when the newly inaugurated executive of the Association of Tricycle Riders of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, led by the chairman of the association, Comrade Ikah Benjamin Ejiofor, paid him a courtesy call.
He insisted that it is illegal for anybody to embark on driving without a genuine driver’s licence, saying that the commission would not temper justice with mercy if its operatives apprehend anyone that violates the law.
Mr Mendie advised drivers to go for the biometric data capturing exercise before they obtain their licences, stating that there are currently many fake licences.
“Obtaining a driver’s licence through the back door is not allowed; we want zero tolerance on road traffic crashes; if you want to obtain a licence, you must go to a driving school,” he stated.
He thanked the tricycle operators for deeming it necessary to visit him, assuring them that nobody would harass them if they obey traffic rules.
While assuring the tricycle operators of the support of the commission, he advised them to be law abiding and operate in line with traffic laws in the state, warning that the command would not tolerate reckless driving, overloading and other traffic offences
