On Tuesday, 12th May, 2020 The Penthouse Law held her 2nd Interactive Session with Mr. Ope Olugsasa, the CEO of Law Pavillion and the topic for discussion was “The Future of Law Practice”
Mr. Ope Olugasa brilliantly delivered a robust lecture on the topic and made a presentation titled “The Paradox of Pandemics and its Effects on Law Practice”. He began by stating emphatically that “Pandemics, Wars and Recession are platforms for resetting the distribution of wealth.”
There is no gainsaying that the most vital question which most legal practitioners ask this era is “What will change in Legal Practice? “ The entire session however was about answering this question in more ways than one.
The session also bothered on further mind boggling questions such as: ‘What we need to do in order to be relevant in the coming wealth redistribution’. ‘What would be left for the unprepared?’
Mr. Olugasa read an article credited to his colleagues at Law Pavillion titled, How Pandemic and War Destroy Existing Economic Order and Build New Ones
From the article, it is understandable that there would be the Emergence of a New Rule of Play that would affect processes and operations.
He stated that amongst the things that would change in the legal space are:
- Court Engagements which consists of E-filing, Remote hearing, higher speed of processing, Exposure of digital divide. This means that there’s going to be urgent need to digitize your documents and your practice. One would need to learn the use of Video Conferencing Tech Tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, WebEx, etc
- Client Engagement which consists of Existing relationships, Acquisition of new relationships, Birth of Legal Platforms for Finding and Engaging Lawyers.
- Law firm management which consists of remote Work, Work Process Management & Automation, Productivity Tracking, Remote Freelancing, Document Management, Definition of Library, Legal Research. There would be urgent need for acquisition of EFFICIENT Legal Process Automation Systems (EAP) eg Case Management Softwares.

Gone are the days big office space matters, gone are the days physical structure determines the likelihood of making the SAN conferment list. What matters now would be the value of your resources.
