A section of Rivers House of Assembly was razed by raging fire which followed an explosion at the sprawling complex last Sunday night.
The fire incident at the Assembly reportedly started at about 10 p.m. on Sunday night.
The cause of the explosion and fire at the assembly complex was not known at the time of filing this report.
However, it was learnt that more than 10 fire trucks were drafted to combat the fire incident.
It was also learnt that armed policemen drawn from the Rivers Command headquarters situated directly opposite the Assembly have been drafted to cordon off the Assembly complex.
The firefighters successfully put the fire under control.
The cause of the explosion and the fire incident was not known as at the time of filing in this report.
However, it is almost certain that the lawmakers cannot sit at the Chambers of the Complex as from Monday as it has been completely razed down.
Sketchy reports have it that there was a massive explosion was inside the Legislative Chambers before an uncontrollable fire started.
Unconfirmed speculation making the rounds was that there was a plan by the lawmakers to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor, Siminilayi Fubara by the House of Assembly
The speculation was that the relationship between the Governor and the House of Assembly has not been cordial.
However, the rumors of political rift between the Governor and Rivers Assembly may not has any solid basis as the Fubara on Friday swore in five new commissioners screened by the lawmakers the previous day.
There were also rumours of alleged rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
However, the true picture of the political situation in the state and the circumstances surrounding the to the explosion at Rivers Assembly complex are expected to unfold within the week.
