On 25th April, 2024 at Radsison Blue Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos Grant Thornton Nigeria hosted an insightful workshop for INSOL International’s Future Leaders program recently in Lagos. Themed “The Future of Business Rescue in Nigeria,” the event aimed to upskill young professionals on the country’s rapidly evolving insolvency and business rescue landscape.
The workshop commenced with welcome addresses by BRIPAN President Mr. Chimezie Ihekweazu SAN and Grant Thornton Nigeria CEO Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Ogwo. This was followed by three informative modules led by Grant Thornton Partners.
Mr. Orji Okpechi kickstarted the sessions by examining Nigeria’s previous insolvency framework and the legal drawbacks it faced.
Mr. Lateef Emiola then analyzed the new insolvency provisions under CAMA 2020, including company voluntary arrangements and administration procedures.
In the concluding module, Mr. Amaechi Nsofor discussed the future trajectory of insolvency laws, potential cross-border implications, and avenues like debtor-in-possession models and restructuring plans to strengthen the current framework.
Attendees also participated in an interactive case study, applying their learnings to analyze a real-world scenario and recommend solutions.
The workshop aimed to empower the next generation of insolvency professionals by providing comprehensive insights into Nigeria’s rapidly transforming business rescue regime.
Mr. Amaechi Nsofor delivered the closing remarks, followed by a networking photo session with the speakers and attendees.
