A Police Inspector attached to the Taabaa Division of Rivers Police Command, Nelson Abuante, on Sunday turned his gun on himself after mistakenly shooting a colleague identified as Monday Gbaramana during an at Nyogor-Lueku in the Khana Local Government Area of the state.
The Policemen had gone to arrest a suspect in the community.
However, the suspect who was reported to the police by his mother had resisted arrest. It was while trying to force the arrest of the suspect that Inspector Abuante accidentally shot Gbarama, who was also an Inspector.
Though Gbaramana was immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained from the gunshot, he reportedly died on the way as the vehicle being used to convey him ran out of petrol.
Abunate Abuante turned the gun on himself, corked it and shot himself dead on learning about the death of his colleague.
Rivers Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko said the remains of the two Inspectors have been deposited at the mortuary while investigations are ongoing”.
