I join women globally as we mark the International Women’s Day 2024, as we celebrate the achievements of women worldwide, and as we reflect on the progress made towards gender equality, even as we recognize the challenges that persist.
The theme of this year’s commemoration, “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” underscores the vital importance of investing in women’s empowerment and advancing gender equality to drive social, economic, and political progress globally.
It underscores the critical role women play in driving positive change across various sectors, including but not limited to the legal profession. Indeed, female lawyers play a pivotal role in advancing justice, equality, and the protection of human rights in our society.
On this International Women’s Day, we must reaffirm our commitment to invest in women and girls as catalysts for positive change. We must harness the full potential of half of the world’s population to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all.
Together, we can accelerate progress towards gender equality and create a world where every woman and girl can thrive and fulfill her potential. This we can achieve by advocating for gender equality, by mentoring and empowering the girl child, by promoting diversity and inclusion, by driving sustainable legal reforms and by leading by example.
