Joyce Oduah, FICMC Mourns Chief Mrs. Phoebe C. Ajayi-Obe, SAN and Commiserates with Her Family

It is with great shock that I received the devastating news of the demise of Chief Mrs. Phoebe Ajayi-Obe, SAN, who died on 28th day of June, 2020.

Indeed, the Learned Silk was one of the finest and brightest female Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN). In point of fact, she was elevated to the revered rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in the year 1989 and consequently became the 1st Female SAN in Eastern Region & 2nd Female SAN in Nigeria. Interestingly, she is the first female to have graduated from Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife (then University of Ife). The Learned Silk was an inspiration to many and an accomplished legal practitioner. She was a foremost promoter and respecter of the rule of law, and was a well-respected member of the Bar and society at large. She was a mother to all and dedicated ample time in mentoring young lawyers. Indeed, the NBA as well as the Nation has lost a legal colossus, whose kind is very rare in the legal community. She will be greatly missed in the legal profession, particularly at this time when people like her are really needed in the fight against bad governance.

My condolence goes to her immediate and extended family, Body of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (BOSAN) and the NBA.

I pray that God grants her eternal rest, and gives her family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

JOYCE ODUAH, FICMC
Former National Treasurer, NBA 2012-2014.
