The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) embarked on an awareness programme called “Man Wey Sabi” at Sabo market in Ikorodu.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, scribe of Lagos DSVA.
Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, emphasized the importance of collective efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and empower women within society.
The program aimed to challenge gender stereotypes, enlighten communities, and promote the understanding that gender equality leads to a peaceful, violence-free society.
The “Man Wey Sabi” program focused on the significant role men play in ending domestic and sexual violence, emphasizing the importance of partnership in marriages. It highlighted men’s involvement in childcare and encouraged them to champion the cause of gender equality.
The event featured a cooking competition sponsored by Power Oil Nigeria Limited, showcasing men’s culinary skills. This competition aimed to spread the message of gender equality and challenge stereotypes surrounding men’s participation in childcare and the value of partnership in marriage.
The Iyaloja of Sabo market in Ikorodu, Alhaja Muinat Ojulari, commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for creating a conducive environment for both genders to thrive. She praised the DSVA for its innovative program and expressed optimism about its positive impact.
Akinshiku Akinwale emerged as the winner of the cooking competition, while Ade Glo won the Doll Dressing category, demonstrating the success of the “Men Wey Sabi” initiative at Sabo market.
