I wish to congratulate the Federation of Women Lawyers Lagos State on their Fida Law Week.
The topic for this Law Week is GENDER BASED VIOLENCE, STEMMING THE TIDE.
Addressing gender based violence requires a multifaceted approach, this includes education, legal reforms, and community engagement.
Raising awareness about gender equality and consent through education can help challenge cultural norms. Strengthening law enforcement and ensuring swift justice for perpetrators can act as a deterrent. Empowering women economically and socially can enhance their status and reduce vulnerability. Community involvement, including engaging men and boys as allies is crucial for ordering a culture of respect and equality. NGOs and government agencies can collaborate to provide support services for survivors and promote gender-sensitive policies.
