The much anticipated 2022 elections of the Nigerian Bar Association commenced at exactly 12:00 am in the morning of Saturday, 16th July, 2022 when the Electoral Commitee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ENCBA) officially kicked off with the sending of voting links to eligible voters.
In this year’s election, a total number of 53 candidates are vying for various national offices of the NBA.
According to sources monitoring the election, some candidates are already in early lead as votes started trooping in.
As at the time of filing this report, few hours into the election, our sources disclosed that Mr. Y.C Maikyau, SAN who is a candidate for the office of the President was leading his closest rival, Mr. J.K Gadzama SAN with over 64% of the votes as Mr. J.G Taidi was trailing in the third place.
In the race for the office of the National Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajiboye recorded an early lead with 55% of the votes while his only opponent trails with 39% of the votes so far recieved.
The race to watch is the race for the office of the General Secretary where Mr. Adesina Adegbite, popularly known as AA also pulled an early lead, leading three others with a total of 56% of the votes so far recieved.
In the race for the office 3rd Vice-president, Mrs. Asagba Ego Justina Amanda clenched the lead with 61.5% while her opponent Mr. Ogbah Issac Omuta has 37.2%
According to a release from the ECNBA, the polls will close at 11:59pm of Saturday, 16th July, 2022, after which the final results will be announced.
The elections into the national offices of the NBA is conducted every two years when all eligible lawyers exercise thier franchise to choose officers who would pilot the affairs of the Association for a term of two years. Recall that Mr. Olumide Akpata, the incumbent NBA President Mr. Olumide was elected in July, 2020 for a term of two years which come to an end in August, 2022.
