The Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, through its Task Force/Security Agencies Relations Committee, has vowed that never again will any Lawyer be allowed to endure any indignation in the course of fulfilling their professional obligations.
This was contained in the Committee’s report, signed and presented by its Chairman, Adeniyi Quadri, Esq., at the Branch’s monthly meeting held on the 5th of February, 2024 at its Secretariat in Ikeja, Lagos.
The Task Force/Security Agencies Relations Committee of NBA Ikeja was inaugurated by the branch Chairman, Seyi Olawumi, Esq following the harassment and detention of a Lawyer, Olumide Sonupe, Esq. by men of the Nigeria Police at Gowon Estate Police Station, Ipaja, Lagos State.
According to the report: In reaffirming our commitment, we unequivocally declare that no lawyer shall endure such indignation while fulfilling their professional obligations. To this end, the Branch is finalizing arrangements to establish a dedicated helpline, ensuring immediate assistance to any member subjected to similar circumstances. Never again shall a scenario unfold wherein the advocate becomes the advocated, as exemplified in Mr. Sonupe’s case.”
