The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on Friday that a tanker explosion in the Ijora area did not result in any casualties.
Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the General Manager of the service, stated this in a statement in Lagos.
She insisted that the fire had been successfully controlled.
The incident occurred on the bridge connecting Ijora, Orile, and Costain areas of Lagos on Thursday night, causing a significant commotion.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the accident.
Adeseye explained, “The raging fire has been curtailed as the dampening of pockets of fire continues to allow for an investigation to reveal the cause and the evacuation of the carcass to bring about normalcy.”
The extent of the damage included 11 vehicles, comprising two tankers, one tipper truck, three trailers, three cars, and two micro-minibuses.
Mr Ibrahim Falinloye, the Southwest Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), added that the fiery incident consumed 13 vehicles, which included two buses, two cars, a trailer loaded with sardines and detergents, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), three flat-body trailers, two 20-foot containers, and two PMS tankers.
Additionally, 12 high-tension electric poles were destroyed in the incident.
Efforts to restore normalcy and clear the affected area are underway, with the carcasses of the burned vehicles being evacuated by LASEMA (Lagos State Emergency Management Agency).
