National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a new University, Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Niger State.
The new University becomes the 65th State University and 277th University in the Nigerian University System.
NUC Acting Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki, in a statement, on Monday, confirmed that the university proprietors have met all the necessary requirements hence the provisional licence for the establishment of the University.
Meanwhile, in a letter to the Governor, the NUC Acting Executive Secretary said, “I write, on behalf of NUC, to inform you that with effect from Monday 2nd December, 2024, Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Niger State, has been recognised as the 65th State University and 277th University in the Nigerian University System.
“This is consequent upon the receipt of the Niger State Government’s letter dated 2nd October, 2024, notifying the NUC of the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, and the formal presentation of the Strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted University Law, Academic Brief, and Physical Master Plan.”
He pledged the support of NUC to the University, and also enjoin the governor and the State Government to take full advantage of the professional and technical advice that the Commission is statutorily required to provide State Governments on the establishment, sustainable funding, and operation of their universities.
He further confirmed that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have notified of the establishment of the University.
