Police have launched a manhunt for gunmen who abducted four female students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi from their off-campus hostel at Angwan Kare, a settlement near the institution early Tuesday morning.
The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed that the students were abducted at about 12:55 a.m. by the gunmen who invaded their residence at Angwan Kaare community.
Nasarawa Police spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the abduction of the students said operatives of the Command received a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday that a house at Angwan Kare was attacked by gunmen.
“The command is aware of kidnapping at about 12:55 am as a distress was received that a house located at Angwan Kaare, Keffi was invaded by unidentified armed men,” Nansel said.
He added that immediate efforts to rescue the students were unsuccessful, but a manhunt has been launched for free the abductees.
“The police in collaboration with the military, responded accordingly and combed the area, but to no avail.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the culprits with a view to rescue the victims unhurt,” Nansel said.
According to Channels Television, the victims are all first-year students of Nasarawa State University.
The students and their departments were identified as Rahila Hanya from Science Laboratory Technology; Josephine Gersho, Computer Science; Rosemary Samuel from Business Administration and Goodness Samuel from Geography departments respectively.
