The Kogi chapter of the Social Democratic Party, PDP has appealed to the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide maximum security for members of the All Progressives Congress, APC who will be in Ajaka town as part of their campaign for the state November 2023 governorship election today.
Ajaka is the town of the candidate of SDP in the Kogi November 11 governorship election, Murtala Ajaka.
However, SDP’s appeal to the police and the DSS for maximum protection for members of APC that will participate in the rally followed what the party described as “a plot being hatched by the state government to set up its members for arrest”
Faruk Adejoh-Audu, Director of Communication of Muritala Ajaka Campaign Organisation, in a statement on Wednesday, claimed that the APC state government was planning to launch an attack on its own members APC during the rally in Ajaka, and blamed it on the SDP candidate who is from the town and his supporters.
He claimed that thugs have been detailed to open fire on buses conveying supporters, rented crowds and Local Government civil servants who have been forcefully compelled to attend the APC rally in Ajaka on their way to the event.
“The thugs who are to be dressed in SDP vests are also detailed to open fire at the rally venue to maim and kill participants in order to create maximum mayhem and blame it on our candidate and his supporters.
Farouk claimed the plot is part of the desperation plot by the state governor, Yahaya Bello to foist the APC governorship candidate on the people of the state.
Kogi SDP noted that its secretariat has been attacked four times with the entire structure burnt-out to ashes the last time was on the 9th of July just two months ago.
“Alhaji Ajaka abhors violence in its entirety and we are calling on the Commissioner of Police, the Kogi State Director of the Department of State Security (DSS), the Inspector General of Police and the DG DSS to provide maximum security and protection for participants of the APC rally scheduled for Ajaka town tomorrow to preempt the evil plot, the SDP said.
