Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed multiple lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, accusing her of defamation following recent public allegations.
The legal battle stems from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s interview on Arise TV, where she alleged that Senate President Akpabio made sexual advances toward her both at his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.
In reaction to the claims, Ekaette Akpabio strongly refuted the allegations, describing them as false and insisting that her husband is a disciplined individual. She termed the senator’s remarks as “scandalous and salacious.”
As part of her legal response, she has filed a fundamental rights suit at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, claiming that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusations have subjected her and her children to “emotional and psychological abuse.”
She is asking the court to:
- Issue a restraining order preventing Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further statements that infringe on her fundamental rights.
- Award ₦250 billion in exemplary, punitive, aggravated, and general damages for the harm caused by the alleged defamatory statements.
- Order the senator to publicly apologize, with the apology published in two national newspapers.
- Grant ₦1 billion in punitive and exemplary damages for the reputational harm caused.
- Impose a perpetual injunction, barring Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further defamatory statements against her and her family.
