Meenakshi Kumari, 23 and her 15-year-old sister were sentenced to be paraded naked with blackened faces and raped after their brother ran off with a married woman.
The sentence has caused international outrage and sparked an investigation into the “court” which gave the sentence.
Amnesty International has called the ruling “disgusting”.
“Rape is a revolting crime, not a punishment,” Amensty UK’s urgent action coordinator Rachel Alcock told the Daily Mirror.
“It’s no wonder this disgusting ‘sentence’ has provoked global outrage.”
Celebrities such as Brian May from Queen have put their full support behind a petition against the punishment.
