The Fall of an Iroko: Mourning the Irreplaceable Loss of Adesina Ogunlana, Esq. – A Tribute by Florence Aloaye Horace

DEMISE OF ADESINA OGUNLANA, ESQ. AN UNBELIEVABLE, IRREPLACEABLE, IRRECOVERABLE, IRREPARABLE AND, IRREMEDIABLE LOSS.

TRIBUTE TO ADESINA OGUNLANA ESQ (“the fall of an iroko tree’’)

Indeed, of this great man, no praise is adequate. Serubawon the Hero of our time is gone!

History will not forget how lawyers from all over the world gathered together to fight a just because Serubawon the Hero of our time led the way. He is known to have made countless memorable great and dogged contributions that have greatly improved and impacted our legal jurisprudence.

Adesina Ogunlana Esq was a man of monumental influence over the practice of law, both in its substance and style. Draconian laws and pronouncements could not thrive in his days.

The iroko is arguably the tallest, most valuable, strongest and most iconic tree in the forests of Africa. It serves as a watchdog and a cover for other trees, as a king in the forest, the iroko provides shelter to animals and humans alike.  It is often referred to as ‘African teak’ because of its astonishingly multi-faceted value. And in most cultures, when a great man dies, his demise is likened to the fall of an iroko.

This aptly depicts the transition to the great beyond of Late, ADESINA OGUNLANA ESQ who was a symbol of strength and resilience, whose sudden death in Lagos, Nigeria is till a mirage to all. This sent shock waves across the Nigeria legal profession and Nigerians at large. I received with a rude shock the news of his death and same has left a huge abyss in the spectra of my heart. I am yet unable to comprehend the passing of one of our legal luminary, a supporter, the peoples lawyer, and a former Chairman of the NBA Ikeja Branch

The two times i contested as the Financial Secretary of NBA Ikeja Branch, as a Father and a mentor, he gave me his unwavering support, with constant advice on how i will emerge as the candidate of the branch until i was finally elected unopposed.  Sir your support was of great measure and instrumental to my emerging unopposed.

We lost ADESINA OGUNLANA ESQ at a critical moment we needed him most. It is indeed a great loss to us all particularly we his Legal Children, friends/colleagues and mostly to his family. He is gone but his memories lives on!

I pray God will console, comfort and grants us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Rest in peace, Adesina Ogunlana (Sherubawon)

God knows best…
