A pro-democracy group, the Coalition For A Better Nigeria, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Chief Pius Akinyelure to the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
President Tinubu had, on Monday, appointed Pius Akinyelure as the new Board Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited with effect from December 1, 2023.
This was as he reappointed the incumbent Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mele Kyari, for another term.
The group conveyed its commendation in a press statement, signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Awa Bamiji, on Tuesday and which was forwarded to P.M.NEWS.
“We congratulate Mr President for making the right choice in the appointment of Chief Pius Akinyelure from Ondo State as non – nonExecutive board Chairman of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“The appointment is a round peg in a round hole, well deserved, based on his wealth of experience and it is also most timely considering the urgent need to revive our ailing economy with the dwindling value of our currency,” Awa Bamiji wrote.
According to him, Chief Akinyelure’s highly productive days at Mobil are a testament to his competency as required to propel the renewed hope Agenda of Mr President.
“Every aspect of our economy presently needs the expertise and knowledge of technocrats to save it from total collapse.
“Akinyelure’s appointment and those of other professionals in this government have adequately testified to the fact that the annulled M.K.O Abiola’s Hope 93 is today being renewed by President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Bamiji opined.
He wished the boardroom expert and Ondo high chief a successful tenure of office.
