Five people were crushed to death in an auto crash that occurred on Monday at Okpella community, along Auchi/Abuja highway, Etsako East local government of Edo state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred when an articulated truck descending the hill from the Abuja axis of the road, lost control and rammed into a 14-seater bus and Toyota Camry car around the market in the community.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Paul Okpe, confirmed that five people died, while two others sustained injuries in the accident.
According to him, “Five people died in the accident while two who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“My command and the police carry out the rescue operation and brought things under control.
“The truck was on the hill and so many factors may have responsible for it. Some may say brake failure or driver sleeping on the steering among others. Until investigation is done, we can’t really say this is the exact cause of the accident.”
Okpe however advised road users to be very careful, especially in the Em-ber months by ensuring that their vehicles are road-worthy.
He assured that operatives of the FRSC will continue to do their best on the road.
