The former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr Kole Abayomi SAN, died in the early hours of today in London at the age of Seventy-Nine (79) years. His death is no doubt a big loss to the legal community and of course to his great family. Dr. Kole Abayomi SAN was called to the Bar in 1966 and admitted to the inner Bar in 2005. He was a lecturer of the Nigerian Law School for many years and rose to become the Director-General of the Law School before he retired and went into private legal practice.
He was a bouyant and a fantastic lecturer reputed for his imposing personality, erudition, skill and elegance. His dressing was always impeccable. As a lecturer and Director-General of the Law School, Dr. Kole Abayomi SAN was a role model. He held the ideals, values and virtues of the Legal Profession exceedingly high.
As a man of peace, I recall very vividly that Dr. Kole Abayomi SAN played a very worthy and prominent role of reconciliation among the Yoruba Lawyers as a member of the Committee of Chief Mrs Priscillia Kuye, Past President of Nigerian Bar Association, during the NBA Election in 2014.
It is far better for one to build his reputation on what is positive and to be known for what one stands for than what one stands against. Dr. Kole Abayomi SAN built his reputation on what was all the way positive such as proud parentage, sound legal education, high standard of legal practice, elegance, decorum and self-confidence. This qualities will remain indelible in our hearts.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
