At a tribute session organized by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)Ikeja Branch during its September monthly meeting on September 2, 2024, renowned human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana SAN, paid homage to the late Adesina Ogunlana, describing him as a man who lived to promote justice, fairness, and the eradication of harassment, oppression, or intimidation.
Speaking at a Tribute Session held in honour of Adesina Ogunlana, past Chairman of NBA Ikeja branch, Falana reflected on Ogunlana’s unwavering commitment to the fight for justice, even in the face of personal sacrifice. “In normal climes, a 60-year-old man should not be on the streets protesting,” Falana remarked, “but Ogunlana, at his age, was out there, raising his voice against the hardship in the country.” His words were met with an acknowledgment of the challenges Ogunlana faced in his relentless pursuit of justice.
Falana expressed deep admiration for Ogunlana’s life, noting that it was impossible to encapsulate his greatness in such a short span of time. However, he emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps toward health, particularly for those above 40 years old, advising regular medical check-ups at least twice a year.
In a powerful suggestion that received thunderous applause, Falana proposed the establishment of a foundation in Ogunlana’s honor. This foundation, he suggested, should support Ogunlana’s family and ensure that the education of his children never suffers. The recommendation was seen as a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the cause of justice.
Concluding his tribute, Falana called on NBA members to rededicate themselves to the task of nation-building, drawing inspiration from Ogunlana’s selfless dedication to the betterment of society.
The session left many in attendance reflecting on Ogunlana’s legacy, with a renewed sense of commitment to upholding the values for which he stood so firmly.
