There was pandemonium on Saturday at Chinda/Ada George area of Port Harcourt as a man simply identified as Nuhu suddenly slapped a police officer, collected his AK 47 rifle and ran while shooting it indiscriminately and in the process killing one man before he was also shot dead.
According to report, Nuhu snatched the gun from a police officer attached to the house of an ex-Governor at Ada George road, Port Harcourt.
Nuhu said to be a popular scavenger was suspected to be acting under the influence of hard drug.
He ran with the AK 47 rifle he snatched from the security personnel to a location off Chinda way, at Mile 4, opposite Boropit. The person he shot dead while shooting the gun indiscriminately was also a scavenger .
Our source disclosed that police officers arrived at the scene after Nuhu shot a man dead, and he engaged them in a shoot out but was neutralized while the Ak 47 riffle was retrieved by the security operative.
Video obtained and seen by our reporter showed the dead body of Nuhu and the other Man.
The source revealed that police officer from Rumukpakan i(Ada George Police Division) and other officers came to retrieve the two corpse.
It was learnt that before Nuhu snatched the Ak 47 rifle, he was chasing some members of his ethnic group with dagger.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the shooting incident.
She however said the hoodlums stabbed the Inspector many times on the head before collecting his rifle.
In a press statement she issued on Sunday, Iringe-Koko said on December 17th, 2023, at about 1500 hrs received a message from DPO Rumukpakani Division that one hoodlum, identity yet unknown, ran towards Inspector Ade Rotimi attached to the APC pin-down point by Ada George Road with three others, suddenly stabbed him multiple times on his head, and collected his rifle.
He also injured one inspector, Bala Yusuf on his hand and ran towards the Boro Pit Area. He started firing indiscriminately and shot a man yet to be identified.
He was given a hot chase by the policemen on duty, and he became more violent. Therefore, officers fired to subdue him.
The snatched rifle was recovered from him, while the injured hoodlum, the lifeless body of the person he shot, and the two injured police officers were taken to the hospital.
The two unknown persons shot were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while the corpses were deposited at UPTH Mortuary for autopsy.
The two police officers are responding to treatment at the hospital.
SP Iringe-Koko assured that an investigation is ongoing.
