I join millions of Nigerians across the world to mourn one of our country’s oldest Senior Advocate of Nigeria Chief Richard Osuolale Akinjide, SAN, whom death snatched away in the early hours of Tuesday the 21st of April, 2020 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
No word is enough to describe the legal giant and political maverick who was former minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
Chief Akinjide, a one time President of the Nigerian Bar Association was a quintessential barman, an epitome of Justice and a fine legal Practitioner who contributed immensely to the legal profession and the Nigerian Justice system as a whole.
Chief was a very close friend of my late dad, I remember my dad always referring to their times together in the U.K.
“A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on by ” J.F.Kennedy.
Chief Akinjide may be dead but his ideas and legacies lives on, his death is indeed an irreplaceable loss.
My prayers are with the family of this late humanist and reformer as he heeds the higher call to glory.
Goodnight and rest in perfect peace.
