Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, a former Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was rearrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), on Thursday.
He was rearrested after the adjournment of his trial on an 18-count charge bordering on diversion of public funds to the tune of N5 billion.
Ojerinde was arrested at the car park of Federal High Court Abuja as he was leaving after the adjournment of his trial to 15 February by Justice Obiora Egwuatu.
The former JAMB Registrar was reportedly with one of his sons at the carpark when he was accosted by the ICPC operatives who whisked him away in their vehicle.
However, NAN said the rearrest of Ojerinde may be unconnected to revelations made by the 4th prosecution witness, Mr JImoh Olabisi, former Deputy Director of Finance of JAMB at his ongoing trial.
The News Agency quoted a source in the commission as confirming that a warrant for his re-arrest of Ojerinde was obtained from the FHC Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho.
ICPC had, on July 8, 2021, arraigned the former JAMB registrar on an 18-count charge.
He was said to have committed the offence during his tenure as registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO) and JAMB.
Ojerinde, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
He was released from detention courtesy of N200 million bail he was granted before his rearrest on Thursday.
