Wike to Oshiomhole: I apologise, forgive me for helping Obaseki win re-election

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Wednesday apologized to the former National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, for working for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki in Edo State in September 2020 against his desires and advice.

Wike said he regretted now because Oshiomhole, the immediate past Governor of Edo state who stood against Godwin Obaseki from succeeding him saw, and knew ahead of time way back in September 2020 that Obaseki cannot be trusted politically.

Wike tendered the unreserved apology to Oshiomhole at the inauguration of the Rumuepirikom Flyover in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area on Wednesday, November 16.

Wike also reiterated that he would not support anyone that does not have the interest of Rivers people at heart.

On his part, Oshiomhole, who came to Port Harcourt to commission Rumueprikon flyover denied using army, navy, airforce and other security agencies to disrupt the 2019 governorship campaign in Rivers State and elections while he was the National Chairman of APC.

Recall that Governor Wike was one of the arrowheads of the campaigns and sponsorship of Obaseki’s re-election as Governor of Edo State under the political platform of APC who later defected to PDP.

Our Correspondent reports that it did not take long before the relationship between Wike and Obaseki became sour. It became irreparable when Obaseki stood against Wike’s emergence as the Presidential candidate of PDP, while supporting Atiku Abubakar who later won the Presidential primary.

Oshiomole had arrived Port Harcourt yesterday ahead of the Commissioning of the Rumueprikon flyover and was received by Wike, the PDP Governorship candidate, Siminalayi Fubara and other top members of PDP in the state at the Governor’s private residence at Rumueprikon.
