Woman Remanded In Kirikiri Prison For Assaulting Lawyer


A mother of five was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prison by an Igbosere Magistrate Court over a case of alleged assault and threat to life.The presiding Judge, Botoku of Igbosere Magistrate Court 2 gave the order to that effect.The accused, Mrs. Uche Jerry Okoh, was alleged to have assaulted a legal practitioner, Mrs. Blessing Ahmed, on April 19, 2017 at Oko-Oba area of Lagos State in the course of carrying out her official duty as a legal consultant to the accused landlord.However, when the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently committed to bail but failed to meet the condition.On compassionate grounds, the trial judge gave a bail conditions of N 100,000, one surety in like sum, who must also have evidence of tax payment and verified address in a paid employment.The lawyers to the complainant, Jude Ozemohya, Armani John and Atunbi John did not object to the bail conditions.The accused who failed to meet her bail conditions, was subsequently remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum prison pending when she will be able to meet the conditions.It will be recalled that the accused and others on the run allegedly assaulted and inflicted heavy injuries on the lawyer, Mrs. Ahmed when she had gone to serve the accused a letter.The matter had been adjourned to June 15, 2017.
